Q&As

In this section we will put answers to the most common questions that people ask at our training courses and conferences and through our key skills helpline.

Key skills tests

Can a learner who has passed a Basic Skills test go on to gain the corresponding key skills qualification just by providing a portfolio of evidence?
Yes they can but it may cost more than if they had been registered for the key skill qualification in the first place.

The awarding bodies tend to treat the key skill qualifications as single items, so they will not allow registration for just the portfolio.  This means that someone who has achieved adult literacy at level 2 must register for the Communication key skill test and protfolio.  They can then use the adult literacy qualification as a proxy for the key skills test.

Effectively you are paying to register for a test that the learner has already achieved.

Proxies and relaxation

What are proxies?
Proxies are qualifications which a learner may use in order to claim exemption from parts of the key skills assessment.
